All the reasons I ship Doctor/Donna instead of Doctor/Rose boil down to this

Rose would die for the Doctor

Donna would die for the same reasons he would

It’s the difference between ‘I’m never gonna leave you’ and ‘Never mind us’

You can ship Doctor/Donna all you want (hell, I ship a bit of it too, now that Winter’s talked me through Donna’s side!) but that is not the reason to ship Doctor/Donna instead of Doctor/Rose.

She continually risks her life for the universe, not just the Doctor. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t’ve joined Torchwood in the parallel universe, of her own free will. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have come through the barriers that were breaking down to warn the Doctor that someone was tampering with the fabric of reality.

I’m sorry if this sounded a bit abrasive — and I didn’t mean it to be, so I’m sorry if I offended you! — but Rose cares about the world and the universe just as much as the Doctor and Donna do. You can ship the Doctor and Donna instead of the Doctor and Rose just because you like the former ship better, you know? You don’t necessarily need to look for differences between them, that’s fine. Your preference is your preference. It’d just be nice if you didn’t put down the other characters by consequence. :) ))

I have spent the entire day trying to come up with a coherent response. It’s such a massive topic that I don’t know where to begin - but coming on the heels of yesterday’s post about publishing & fanfiction (which was specifically about fanfic that gets the ‘serial numbers filed off’ before publishing), I felt an obligation to write a follow-up in the light of Amazon’s announcement.

You should probably read those links before you freak right the fuck out, because it’s totally okay to get outraged, here, but probably not for the reasons you think.

Now let’s dissect the likely reactions from all quarters and compare them to the actual facts:

because - and this is mostly coming from people who are angry that irene was essentially erased - there seems to be this notion that the persona of irene was entirely an act and moriarty was the ~real deal~ who she really truly is deep down inside

even though she’s shown to explicitly and purposefully construct what people see when they see moriarty - the military jackets, the magazine cut-out letters, male voice on the phone, the cold genius - just as much as she constructs irene in her barefoot white-clothed loose-haired bohemian mpdg fake-glory.

we’re never going to know her real name because none of her stories are true and, at the same time, all of them are; she probably has hundreds of personas for all the different pegs she can slide into and, yeah, one of them might be an opera singer, and they are all masks and they are all her.
